Genealogy Research is widely misunderstood. It is not simply a matter of "tracing " one's ancestors to create an ancestral tree, but rather it is involved with understanding the Stories (vignettes) that color the lives of people in early generations.

Today we will start by discussing a number of short stories about real people who lived in America in the period from 1607 to the early 20th century. Through these stories we can explore American history, including how gender, race, and ethnicity can be seen through the eyes of the experienced genealogist. And then we will turn to your stories.

Attendees who are interested in having the lives of their ancestors explored, but have not done genealogy research, will be invited to submit the name of an individual and, using real-time on-line internet resources, we will see whether we can find new stories to share.

This part of the meeting will focus on people who were born in the 1800s, and lived in the U.S. You will need to bring the individual's name, approximate birth date, and where they were probably living in either 1880 or 1920.
