"It's About Time"
February 7, 2010
We live our lives in space and time, time has always been taken to be the most important. To state it darkly, time is the lethal dimension, far more significantly than is space. Our lives are measured in time.
This fact profoundly conditions speculations on the nature of time. Time has been dismissed as unreal; it has been conceived of as divine. We will survey the most interesting and important visions of time from Plato and his philosophical predecessors through Newton to Einstein and Hawking. We will focus not only on the philosophical aspects of theories of time considered, but also the psychological aspects of those theories.
Bill Garrett received his Ph.D. in Philosophy and Religion from the California Institute of Integral Studies and has taught nine courses for Osher Lifelong Learning at SSU and its satellite programs. He has been a Professor of Religion and Philosophy at JFK University since 1989.
