Richard Ely
"Ancient Cities of Turkey"
Asia Minor, with an urban history that goes back to the Neolithic,
was the wealthiest part of the Roman Empire. Its archeology reveals
extraordinary windows into the ancient world. Richard will show
the beauty of these forgotten ages through slides of such important
ancient sites as Catal Huyuk, the largest Neolithic town on record;
Hatussa, the capitol of the Hittite Empire; the citadel of Troy;
the baths of Perge; the temple of Aphrodite, and much, much more.
Richard Ely works as an environmental geologist in Sonoma County, evaluating and cleaning up contaminated sites. He was educated at Cornell University and the University of Illinois. He has long-standing interests in ancient history, landscape evolution and paleogeography.
